Opportunities in Africa’s Growing Consumer Goods Market

October 17, 2022 • 4:00 pm • Zoom Webinar

Africa’s massive consumer goods market is growing. By 2030, Africa’s consumer market is set to have over 1.7 billion consumers and be valued at $2.5 trillion.

Factors shaping its new consuming class include Africa’s fastest growing and youngest population in the world, concentrated in urban areas. The African continent is home to more than 1.3 billion people with large young urban populations concentrated in megacities such as the Nigerian city of Lagos, which has more than 15 million inhabitants. Cities such as Cairo in Egypt and Johannesburg in South Africa are also home to some of Africa’s wealthiest and most sizable upper and middle-class populations.

The Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), signed in January 2022, aimed at driving intra-African trade, will further boost cross-border trade and investment, including opportunities for companies producing consumer goods and services.

In this consumer goods-themed webinar of FYIstival 2022: The Africa Edition, join our invited speakers from PwC and business leaders of companies producing, selling and trading in consumer goods in Africa to learn about the opportunities in one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer goods markets and how to successfully penetrate and grow in Africa’s consumer markets.

The Future of African Energy Oil & Gas and Beyond

October 3, 2022 • 4:00 pm • Zoom Webinar

Africa is a vast continent of opportunities for energy players across the spectrum, from more established energy sectors such as oil & gas to budding new opportunities for renewables.

Africa’s proven oil and gas reserves account for 7.5% and 7.1% of global reserves, respectively. Europe’s move away from Russian gas has opened ready and lucrative markets for new gas projects. As Europe looks to reduce its dependence on Russia, Africa could provide some 30 billion cubic meters of gas by the decade’s end.

Africa's energy is also transforming and broadening its energy mix with the adoption of renewables which harness its natural landscape for solar, hydro, and wind power and its wide variety of feedstocks for bioenergy. From 2019 to 2020, solar and wind capacity increased by 13% and 11%, respectively, while hydropower soared by 25%.

In this energy-themed webinar of FYIstival 2022: The Africa Edition, join our invited speakers from AMENA Africa, Mendi Energy Resources and Oil & Gas companies from Angola, Nigeria and Ghana to learn more about Africa’s evolving energy sector, upcoming projects and opportunities for Singapore-based companies in Africa.

Leveraging the Rise of E-commerce in Africa

September 12, 2022 • 4:00 pm • Zoom Webinar

E-commerce in Africa has been on the rise.

Africa has the youngest and second largest population as a continent, in the world. Internet penetration has been rising due to the proliferation of smartphones and mobile devices. In recent years, mobile-based payment options have also surged in Africa, mitigating the payment barriers to e-commerce and driving the e-commerce revolution on the continent.

While still meagre in comparison to Asia, Africa’s potential for e-commerce cannot be underestimated. In 2021, the E-commerce industry in Africa generated $28 billion in revenue, while in 2022, the industry is predicted to produce $33.3 billion in revenue following an increase of 19%. By 2025, the sector is projected to grow by 56% and is forecast to surpass half a billion e-commerce users by 2025.

In this e-commerce themed webinar of FYIstival 2022: The Africa Edition, join our invited speakers from HATYTUDE CONSULTING, JUMIA GROUP and FOOD EMPIRE for insights into the growth and opportunities for e-commerce in Africa

Africa’s youthful population, with more than 60% of the population under 30 years old, increasing smartphone penetration and its largely unbanked general population are some of the key factors driving opportunities in Africa’s burgeoning fintech sector.

To put this in perspective, Africa accounted for 70% of the total value of mobile money transactions globally in 2021. The continent has also witnessed the spread and general adoption of digital instant payment solutions.

Global investors have not missed this new sector for growth. In the third quarter of 2021 alone, African fintech firms raised more than $900m: representing more than 60% of all venture money that flowed into Africa in the last quarter of 2021, and more than all other sectors combined in the first half of 2021.

Join our industry experts from Africa and Singapore in this compact webinar to learn more about the rapidly evolving market of African Fintech start-ups and opportunities for Singapore financial services, capital investment and technologies in the growing continent of Africa.
